The Average Joe's Map of the Universe is not so much about a particular topic - it's more about an approach to looking at the world and coming to some kind of understanding.
Everywhere we look, we are bombarded by the ideas and messages of people who are on the extremes of a given ideological spectrum, images of people who do not look real, and examples of behavior that do not reflect the ways that ordinary people would act.
Everything in the media is crafted to present a particular image - to make you think that a particular thing is more attractive, preferable, more real, more like you. By this very nature it is artificial.
I am not an expert in anything. I am not a scholar. I am not a pundit. I am not officially associated with any groups, associations, companies, religions (including atheism) etc. - I write for my own damn self. It would be beyond my expectations and my crowning achievement if this helps anyone else in any way, but I am doing this only because it is my will.
Some of my ideas may be wrong. Some of my ideas may be strange. Some of the language I use may be offensive to some people. You may not agree with me. That's ok. It's normal, let's move on. I'm willing to listen; let's evolve together. I believe that one must accept the other, forgive his or her faults, and communicate as equals in order to be accepted by another, forgiven for one’s faults, and listened to as an equal. Demand respect, but offer it back.
I find most media lacking in sincerity, and this is my attempt to present something genuine. Realize that there is no such thing as normal. There is nothing common about the common man, and that much of our perceptions about reality are dependent on our perspective.
